Coronation Street's Shona Platt (played by Julia Goulding) and David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) prepare to see the consultant next Wednesday to learn more about the mass found on their unborn child's neck, soap spoilers have revealed. As part of the heartwrenching special episode of the ITV programme, viewers will see the morning unfold through Shona's eyes as she wonders how her partner can be so casual when their baby's life could be at risk. After asking David to get out of the car and leave her alone while she's at the hospital, fans of the soap see the same timeline from David's viewpoint. He is determined to remain strong for Shona, but on the inside, he's as concerned as she is over the baby.
Later on, the doctor confirms the worst news of all - that there is a tumour on the infant's neck.
They explain that if the couple decide to continue with the pregnancy, Shona will have to undergo very complicated surgery.
When the medical professional reveals their unborn daughter's tumour could be cancerous, how will the pair react? What decision will they come to - and will they be able to support each other through this challenging time?
Longtime Corrie fans will recall that David has been in a relationship with Shona since 2016, but he's unaware that her son Clayton (Callum Harrison) was behind the death of his first wife for a long time.
He eventually discovered the truth, but the pair decided to get married in 2019.
They've been through a lot in the past few years, to say the least. David was sexually assaulted by Josh Tucker (Ryan Clayton), and Shona had memory loss after sustaining injuries during a siege in Weatherfield.
And last year, Shona was unfaithful to David with Kit Green (Jacob Roberts). While David was heartbroken over the infidelity, he decided to forgive her.
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV and ITVX at 8pm.
